After moving into a rental house, depending on how much furniture was brought to Japan in the PCS shipment, it might be necessary to procure additional items and furnishings. Also, there may be a need to purchase other necessities, such as tools, cleaning supplies, storage containers, bookshelves, insect repellants, etc. The links below contain information on stores where such furniture and home maintenance products are sold. Additionally, there are a couple more large-scale "home improvement" shopping centers, with free parking and a short driving distance from Yokosuka Navy Base (CFAY). The first is called "DCM", which stands for "Do Create Mystyle", and it is located a short distance south of Keikyu Kita-Kurihama. DCM is part of a national retail chain with branch stores in 840 locations around Japan. It is a large and spacious and resembles the American retailers, Walmart or Target. Of note, the Yokosuka branch contains a "Can Do" 100-yen-store (百均, Hyakkin), which offers a wide variety of cheap products (see the link at the bottom). The other similar "big box" home improvement store is called "Cainz", with locations in Kurihama (near the ferry terminal) and Miura City. These shopping centers are located along city highways and are easily accessible by car. During the spring months, things get really busy in the garden centers, as customers buy seeds, plants, soil, fertilizer, pots, gardening tools, etc. -- there is a great variety to choose from.
