In this article we will take a look at furniture.  In many cases, our U.S. military-related customers will rent apartments or houses which are unfurnished, and therefore need to procure furniture and appliances.  Some reasons for customers facing this problem are that their American-style furniture was too big and therefore had to be put into storage back in the U.S. before PCS-ing, or unaccompanied personnel serving on ships simply having no furniture at all.  So, when moving into an unfurnished off-base rental home, start off by contacting the CFAY Housing Support Center (see link below), which, among other thngs, can provide loaner appliances (refrigerator, 4-burner gas stove, washer or dryer, conventional or microwave oven, transformer, etc).  As for buying furniture, the on-base Navy Exchange Furniture Store offers some nice Japan-sized furnishings.  Additionally, there are also options for purchasing furniture at retail stores in the general Yokosuka City area.  One large furniture and "do-it-yourself" (DIY) store is "HOMES", which is located a short drive from the U.S. Navy Base (CFAY), more information is at the link below.  Another large and popular store which sells furniture and appliances at affordable prices is called "NITORI", one of its locations is on the 4th floor of the COASKA shopping mall, located right next to CFAY.  HOMES and NITORI sell both Western and Japanese-style furniture, and if you are interested in really "living like the locals", then please take a look at the information about "Futon" (布団) and "Za-buton" (座布団) at the bottom two links below.  If you have any questions, please give us a call.  We hope you will be able to furnish your Japanese apartment or house for both comfort and beauty!
