Soleil No Oka Park

Much more information and details are provided in the links below about a unique and enjoyable place to get away from urban surroundings and relax.  It is a park called "Soleil no Oka" -- soleil being French for The Sun and oka meaning hill or bluff.  The park is located along the west coast of Yokosuka City, on a cape overlooking Sagami Bay and with scenic views of distant Mouth Fuji (when the weather is clear).  It has been built on the site of a former (World War II era) Japanese air base and is therefore very large and spacious.  There are several pay parking lots available, so using your car to go there is not a problem.  Also, entry into the park itself is free.  What is striking about the place is the greenery and all of the open space -- perfect for walking, playing, picnics and other activities.  There are lots of playground type swings, slides, trampolines, and other fun structures for kids to use and enjoy.  Various types of food are sold in booths and in a restaurant called "Lyon".  There is an observation tower with numerous stairways & platforms, and on top there is a zip line ride which goes across a pond.  Among the many other attractions are a petting zoo, a Ferris wheel, flower gardens, and a hill which people can slide down on plastic sleds, etc.  We hope you will have the chance to visit Soleil Park, which is a great place to enjoy light and space, right next to the ocean.
