Yokosuka City straddles the Miura Peninsula, located south of Tokyo and faces Sagami Bay to the west, the wide Pacific Ocean to the south, and Tokyo Bay to the east.  Historically, Yokosuka did not have much flat land, so, as it grew into a city surrounding the large Japanese Imperial Navy Base (at the time called: Yokosuka Naval Arsenal), several large land reclamation projects were completed.  As a result, nowadays there is a lot of flat land in eastern Yokosuka City which is crowded with businesses, schools, government buildings, and housing -- all situated on landfills.  The Shinko-Cho (新港町) District is the site of Yokosuka's maritime port facilities.  It is located adjacent to the Heisei-Cho District (see links below) and is only a few minutes' drive from Yokosuka Navy Base (CFAY).  Shinko-Cho hosts a large commercial pier, which was completed in 1974.  Of note, in July 2021, a ferry route was established between Yokosuka and Kitakyushu (see link at bottom), and Shinko-Cho has become a logistics hub connecting the Tokyo region and Kyushu.  Located right next to the port area is the Nojima Shopping Mall.  Nojima is a large store which sells consumer electronics and home appliances, etc.  Other businesses in the mall are a supermarket (Sanwa), a drug store, Toys-R-Us/Babies-R-Us, and two stores which sell discount-priced casual and children's clothing (called: "Nishimatsu-Ya" and "Shimamura").  Nojima Mall has lots free parking located on the ground level as well as in the upper floors of the building -- so, it is very convenient to use.  There are also a couple of ATMs on the first floor where you can use a U.S. Visa or Master Card to get yen cash.  We hope you will have the chance to visit Nojima Shopping Mall while you live in Japan.
