Negishi Sakura Festival

As the winter weather gradually warms up with the approach of Spring, the attention of many Japanese turns towards cherry blossom trees (, Sakura) and when they will start to bloom (starting in late-March).  News programs and papers will begin publishing predictions on when the Sakura flowers will appear in various areas around the country.  The Sakura trees will bloom for around two or three weeks, and during that time, many people will go outdoors to have picnics or walks in the parks, enjoying the flowery scenery & arrival of spring.  Some neighborhoods will organize and hold Sakura-themed festivals (祭り, Matsuri).  One of those types of festivals will occur at Negishi Traffic Park (see link below) near Yokosuka's Keihin Kyuko Kita-Kurihama train station, on Saturday, 21 March, from 10:00~16:00 (Note: Event will be cancelled in case of bad weather).  The festival will include activities such as a flea market, audience participation games, on-stage entertainment (brass bands, dances), and food booths, etc.  Admission to the public is free, but there is no parking available, so it will be best to use public transportation to go there.  Some other related information is available at the links below.  We hope you will have the chance to enjoy the brief, beautiful period when the cherry blossom trees are in bloom in the Yokosuka City and Miura Peninsula areas.
