Over the years, Yokosuka City government has undertaken various actions and made investments to promote tourism.  Back in 2013, a project was launched to redesign and renovate a large, refrigerated warehouse which had originally been built in 1987.  The concept was to fill the warehouse with stores, restaurants, a food court, etc., to provide an attractive place where visitors could relax, eat, and shop.  Once completed, the renewed facility was named "Yokosuka Port market".  (See link below for more details).  Port Market is located in the "Shin-Ko" (新港) port district and is a short walking distance from both the Yokosuka downtown area and the U.S. Navy base (CFAY).  It is also situated right next to the Battleship MIKASA park.  Overall, Port Market has been successful in attracting many customers from outside of the city, as well as local citizens.  Of note, in May 2025, a new and popular event was held for the first time, called: "Yokosuka Morning Market".  Tents, booths, and merchandise stands were set-up in an open area near the main entrance and fresh agricultural and seafood products, specialty foods, and miscellaneous goods/souvenirs were sold.  This unique morning market will be set-up again during the weekend of 15~16 November, each day from 09:00~12:00 (cancelled in case of bad weather).  Of note, there are tables and seats available where light meals can be enjoyed.  Also, there is a large pay parking lot located right next to Port Market.  We hope you will be able to get out to visit and enjoy this delightful small market experience.　Written by Goodfield
