The links at the bottom of this article contain a lot of information about "Verny Park", which, among other things, hosts a beautiful rose garden and is located only a short walk from the main gate of Yokosuka navy base (CFAY). Occasionally, unique festivals and events are held in the park. One of those will occur this year from 11~20 April and is named: "Oktoberfest Yokosuka 2025 in Spring". The venue will be open 15:00~21:00 on weekdays and 11:00~21:00 on weekends. The festival is sponsored by Yokosuka City Government, Yokosuka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, German Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Japan, Yokosuka Tourism Promotion and others. Admission to the festival area is free, and visitors can enjoy drinking a wide variety (over 60 types) of German beers, locally brewed beer, and German + Japanese food, etc. Of note, event organizers are working to eliminate plastic and reduce waste and therefore are encouraging all attendees to bring their own cutlery from home. Sustainable cutlery will also be sold at the venue that can be reused many times and can be purchased as mementos. There are various stores/booths which sell food and draft beer, and some have special seats where food can be charcoal grilled. Each store offers different menus for the special seats, and additional items can also be ordered. So, the idea is to enjoy a BBQ in a European tent and relax with delicious German beer and sausages. In addition to the culinary delights, a stage is set-up for performances by musicians and magicians. U.S. Navy's famous Seventh Fleet Band, which is very popular locally, will put on a concert. Using Yokohama's successful autumn Oktoberfest as an example, Yokosuka City chose to first organize this event in 2023 to liven-things-up and build-up tourism following the closures & cancellations during the Covid-19 pandemic. Even if it rains, the festival will be held. Most of the seating areas are covered, so food and drinks can be enjoyed without getting wet. However, in the event of really bad weather, opening hours may be changed or the event may be canceled. We hope you will have a chance to walk out to Verny park and enjoy Yokosuka's unique Oktoberfest 2025.
