Green time in Yokosuka Japan

During springtime in Yokosuka City and the Miura Peninsula areas, multiple shades of the color green can be observed, along with the other bright colors of various flowers.  The Miura Peninsula has many hills and bluffs, which are covered with forests, and so for those who live there, it is possible to enjoy the natural beauty whether from looking out a window or walking under the trees.  In fact, the Japanese have a beautiful saying about going into or strolling through the fresh green forest -- it is called 森林浴, (Shin-rin Yoku), which literally means to "bathe in the woods".  This comes from the olden days knowledge that there are relaxation and restorative health benefits from quietly & mindfully walking through a forest.  There are many walking trails which crisscross the unpopulated hills around Yokosuka, and a quick search of the internet will take you to some nice hiking websites which contain details about the where and how to go.  A more accessible area, with great scenery, parking for cars, and wide/well-maintained walking trails, etc., is the prefectural park at Kannonzaki, located to just to the south of Yokosuka Navy Base facing the entrance to Tokyo Bay (more information at the links below).  The April and May timeframes are great for going on hikes and visiting parks, since the weather tends to be more temperate and enjoyable, before the coming of the rainy season in June, and thereafter the really hot and humid times during July-through-September.  We hope you will be able to enjoy the magical and brilliant "green time" while living in Japan.
