"Verny Park" is located a short walking distance from the main gate of Yokosuka Navy Base (CFAY). It is beautifully designed, in a French style, with a small museum, many naval monuments, and a locally famous rose garden (see link at bottom for more details). A few years ago, Yokosuka City government decided to build a restaurant in the park in order to increase leisure quality and attract more visitors. A public bidding process was held, and the iconic "Amalfi" restaurant from Kamakura City's Shonan Coast was eventually selected. The new restaurant in Verny Park opened in January 2023, and is named: "Amalfi Marina Blu". It is located next to the Yokosuka Modern Heritage Museum (see link at bottom) and overlooks the main naval harbor area. Amalfi Marina Blu occupies a two-story building which can seat 96 people. The first floor is an open kitchen, surrounded by small dinner tables, and the high ceilings and large windows produce a sense of open airiness. The second floor is a private room which can accommodate dinners and wedding parties of up to 40 people. Amalfi Marina Blu serves "slow food", prepared in Italian style, and offers both a set/course menu, as well as an a la carte menu. Lunch is served from 11:00~16:00 (weekdays) and 11:00~15:00 (weekends/holidays), with three set menus priced at 2,400 yean, 3,600 yen, and 5,800 yen. Dinner is served from 17:00~22:00 (weekdays) and 15:00~22:00 (weekends/holidays), with three set menus priced at 3,500 yen, 5,000 yen, and 8,000 yen. For example, the 8,000 yen dinner set consists of a series of six dishes, each with food artfully arranged on large plates, which are brought to the table in succession over the course of the meal. A good drinks and wine menu is also provided, and dessert and coffee are served at the end. Since its opening, Amalfi Marina Blu has become very popular, so it is best to make reservations in advance. Of note, there are a couple of nearby parking lots with spaces which can be used by restaurant customers.
