Medical care in Yokosuka

Medical care is available in Yokosuka, both inside the Navy base (CFAY) and out in town.  U.S. Naval Hospital (USNH) Yokosuka is a large general services medical facility which mainly supports active-duty service members and dependents who are covered by the TRICARE Prime program.  More limited support is available for those covered by the TRICARE Plus and TRICARE Select programs.  If you have any questions or concerns about USNH medical care, contact Customer Sservice at the following email address:

Out in town, there are some large and modern Japanese hospitals (病院, Byo-in) which offer good and professional medical care -- for example, Yokosuka Kyosai Hospital and Yokosuka Uwamachi Hospital.  When using a Japanese hospital, you will have to pay up-front for treatment (cash or credit card) and then get reimbursed by your American insurance company later on.  Some good news is that Japanese medical services & treatments are relatively cheap compared to U.S.  Also, even though there is a language barrier, Japanese hospitals will have English-speakers who can help with communications.  Prescriptions for medications can be taken to drug clinics (薬局, Yakkyoku), which are located near the hospitals.  Patients will not be turned away due to language factors.  We hope you will have a healthy life in Japan!
