Seasons and culture of Japan

"Saizeriya"

A few months ago, we introduced "FAMI-RESU", which is a Japanese term for "Family Restaurant" (see the article linked at the bottom.) FAMI-RESU are inexpensive, informal, with western-style seating, and offer a dining experience similar to famous chain restaurants in America. One popular FAMI-RESU in the Yokosuka area, which focuses on Italian-style cuisine, is called: "Saizeriya." The first Saizeriya restaurant started business in 1973 in Ichikawa City, Chiba Prefecture, and since then has grown into national chain, with over 1,000 locations. Saizeriya management has continued to work hard on keeping prices low, and as a result, it is possible to enjoy a multi-course meal for a very reasonable price. As an Italian restaurant, "standard" dishes, such as spaghetti, pizza, doria, gratin, and penne, are offered. However, there are also other interesting and tasty items on the menu, including escargot, stewed offal, prosciutto, green peas with porcino cheese, fresh-grilled ficelle, olive & anchovy paste, as well as steaks and other meat dishes. Saizeriya has a "drink bar" which allows customers to get free refills of soft drinks, coffee, and tea. Of note, compared to other FAMI-RESU, Saizeriya has a wider variety of alcoholic beverages including several types of wine, as well as draft/canned beer and chu-hai. There are several Saizeriya's located around Yokosuka City -- some are inside shopping centers, while others are at stand-alone locations -- but all of them offer parking, so access is via automobile is easy. In addition to cash, Saizeriya accepts payment via major credit cards such as Visa, Master Card, American Express, and Diner's. We hope you will be able to enjoy a good meal at this restaurant while you live here!
