Gas stoves and stove grills

In this article, we are going to take a closer look at how a lot of Japanese do their cooking in the kitchen. The food preparation appliance which is used the most is a gas stove or stovetop grill. It is compact and rectangle-shaped, measuring 18-20 centimeters high, with the long side 55-60 centimeters across, and the short side 35-40 centimeters. The gas stove normally has two burners/heating elements on top and a small drawer-like pull-out grill on the front. The stove-top burners are easy to use, as each has a button which is pushed to start the gas flow and ignition, and then there is a lever which allows the strength of the flame to be adjusted. Also, gas cooking is very efficient, as the fry pan, wok, or pot being used will heat-up very quickly. It is amazing how many different tasty and nutritious meals can be prepared on a gas grill, such as: stir-fried vegetables, stews, omelettes, pasta & ramen, soups, chicken curry, hamburgers, and so forth -- Japanese cookbooks have thousands of recipes. Then there is the pull-out "drawer grill," on which fish or meat can be placed, and then the grill is pushed into a broiling compartment. Although it was designed to make delicious crisp-fried fish, it also works wonderfully with steaks or pork chops. Due to the lack of a Western-style oven, Japanese will also equip their kitchens with microwave and toaster ovens (which can be used for making bread, pizza, casseroles, etc.), but because of limited kitchen counter space, it sometimes can be a challenge to get everything fit just right. If you have any questions about how to use the gas stove in your house, or its safety features, please feel free to ask us. Happy cooking!
