Japanese culture and food

"FAMI-RESU"

Japan is a food-lover's delight, as there are so many places, both large and small, to go to eat. In addition to the establishments which serve traditional Japanese food, such as sushi, tempura, tonkatsu (deep fried pork), and yakitori (grilled/skewered chicken), etc., there are plenty of eateries which offer cooking from other countries, such as China, India, and Italy. One good way to start exploring the Japanese dining scene is to visit a ファミレス, or "FAMI-RESU", which is the Japanized-English shorthand word for "Family Restaurant". FAMI-RESU offer Western-style seating, serve a both Japanese and Western dishes, and are very affordably-priced. The menus show pictures of all the various foods and drinks, and are often also labeled in English. Most of them provide "all-you-can-drink" non-alcoholic drink bars, including automated Espresso-style coffee-making machines. Additionally, FAMI-RESU have parking lots, making them easily accessible via your car. In the Yokosuka City and Miura Peninsula areas, there are several Denny's, which specialize in hamburger steaks, and offer a U.S.-style club sandwich. Some other national chain FAMI-RESU around Yokosuka are: Gusto, Royal Host, Saizeriya, and Jonathan's. Nowadays with Google Maps and other APPs, it is easy to find and navigate your way to these restaurants, which tend to be conveniently located along major roads and near train stations. So, we hope you will do so, once you have finished settling-in to your Japanese house. Bon appétit!
